Bitcoin Gold is a hard fork of the most popular cryptocurrency – Bitcoin. The reason for its creation was related to unfair mining technologies developed for Bitcoin. Its founders stated that Bitcoin is currently mined by large companies with specific devices (ASIC miners.) This situation works against the decentralized nature of this currency, depriving the possibility of an average user to mine bitcoins efficiently with his GPU. The main difference of Bitcoin Gold is its hashing algorithm – Equihash. This algorithm makes mining via ASIC to be difficult, distributing it back to GPU miners. There are no other relevant changes which could distinguish Bitcoin from Bitcoin Gold.
