Hey peeps! I read a lot of positive comments regarding Binance here at Cryptoncy, and decided to try it for the part of my crypto portfolio. I registered an account there, but can't find how I can enable 2-factor authorization to my Binance account using Google Authenticator. Can anybody help me?

Hey Jessy. Glad to see you again:)
It is right decision to enable Google Authenticator on Binance, and I will show you how you can do that:

First of all you need to hover your mouse on an account icon in the top right corner of Binance:
Google Authenticator for Binance Account

In the appeared section click on your account name (word «Account» and your email below).

In your Binance account you will see section «Two-Factor Authentication», click Enable against Google Authentication.

On the opened page you will see 4-steps process to enable Google Authenticator for Binance account.

Step 1: Download Google Authenticator app or skip this step if you have Google Auth already installed.

Step 2: Scan QR code or enter QR manually in your Google Authenticator app

Google Authenticator Key for Binance Account

Step 3: write down your Google Auth key and save it to a safe place. You will need this key to restore access to your Binance account in case if you will be unable to use your Google Authenticator app (lose your phone, etc).

Step 4: At this step you need to specify your Google Authenticator Key (from the step 3), your current password for Binance Account and 2-factor authorization code from Google Authenticator App. Then click «Enable Google Authentication» to enable Google Authentification for your Binance account.

That's it.

Hi Joe. Please try to restart you Google Authenticator app (kill the process, and start app again). If this will not help I would recommend to start Binance authorization process again (enter login/password, solve Captcha, etc)

Do I need to enter my google authenticator code every time I log in?

Yes, this is the whole point of Google Authentication: nobody will be able to log in into your account without code from your Google Authenticator. It is not very convinient but safety of your Binance account first.

Totally agree. And I would just like to point out how important and secure it is to have your account protected. Although not very convenient as @cyber has pointed out, 2FA (Two Factor Authentication), is especially important for financial accounts like Binance.

You will be able to login to your Binance account, trade, make deposits, the Google Two Step Authentication is required to make withdrawals. We have all heard of cybercriminals, hackers however we all think it won't happen to us, until one day we login and find all our money gone. So is it worth the effort? For sure yes! And Binance is definitely a step ahead even some of the established financial institutions — like banks — in this regard. Stealing your password is easier than most of us think.

Google 2-Factor Authentication used for Binance is a 6 digit code, that updates every 30 seconds. And this of course means that no one will ever be able to guess it (even you) which will prevent your account from unauthorized withdrawal.

The Disadvantage of Google 2-Step Authentication on Binance?

Google Two Step Authenticator is a security measure which ensures that unless you have access to your phone then do not have access to the keys. Therefore you should ensure to prevent losing access to your account in the unfortunate event of phone loss. And the same goes for those planning to sell/change their phone.

How To Back Up Codes For 2-Step Authentication?

So if you are planning to switch phones the obvious thing to do is to switch your authenticator device in your account settings BEFORE you switch devices. If you use SMS, simply activate new phone. If you use authenticator apps like Authy, change phones in your settings. The basic process will require to install app on your new device, scan barcode or enter code, whichever, and confirm.

Also, the sure way to prevent being locked out of your accounts is printing the one-time codes. Google will give you ten one-time codes which you can keep in a safe place for when the situation requires you to use one. Whenever the one-time code is used you will receive an email notification. You can also print out the QR codes for Google 2-step authentications for services you use and scan them when needed.

Google Authenticator Alternative: Can I Use Authy On Binance?

While the one-time codes work great for emergencies, there is another sure way to access your accounts especially in the case when you change devices fairly often. For example Authy is a great third-party authenticator which many people find a lot more convenient than 2FA. Why? Because it has multi-device functionality, meaning that if one of your devices is gone (say your phone) you can easily access your Authy account from your pre-authorized computer or tablet, disable that device and add a new phone instead.

There are plenty more advantages to mention, for instance having encrypted recovery back ups on the cloud, while with Google 2-step authenticator you will have to manually transfer your accounts before switching the phone.

And the best thing, Authy authenticator can be enabled as a 2-step authentication instead of Google on Binance. So if you have already enabled the Google Authenticator you can still easily switch to Authy.

Good Luck!
