Is Gemini exchange safe?

Howdy! Recently found out that Gemini was founded by well-known Winklevoss brothers which makes this exchange credible. But despite of that fact do you think that Gemini exchange is safe? I don't mean that Gemini is scam, my question is more about technical aspects.

From what I know Gemini is very safe (maybe even the safest exchange) for the following reasons:
1) Gemini uses complex system of private keys for protection
2) Gemini doesn't store all coins (bitcoin, ethereum) online.

But it doesnt mean that Gemini can't be hacked. Hackers constantly improve their techniques. The only option when you can be 100% sure in the safety of your coins is to store them in a hardware (cold) wallet.
